Daily League Update

So I promised to update last Friday's post with various links and stuff, but didn't quite get around to it.  SInce if I make an edit now no-one will actually notice, I've decided to make a new post, and indeed invent a new label to boot.  Here goes nothing:

Week 2:
Saturday (Distance, Bram)
Sunday (Quadruple, Seungjae)
PDF - as always, download before printing!

Week 3:
Monday (Killer, Fred)
Tuesday (Queen, Prasanna) - and yes, I am loving the juxtaposition of Killer and Queen!
Wednesday (Diagonal, Bastien)
Thursday (Irregular-Non Consecutive, Rishi)
Friday (Irregular, Me)
Saturday (No Tens, Bram)
Sunday (Mickey Mouse, Seungjae)

PDF will be ready with tomorrow's post!

P.S. If you aren't already involved then I thoroughly encourage you to engage with our facegroup group.  What have you got to lose?

Friday Puzzles #193

When I am feeling less disorientated and delirious, I will post plenty of daily league updates, the Week 2 PDF, and a brief apology for this puzzle being hard and cool, but not nearly as hard or cool as it should have been.

For now, I'm already 10 minutes past Friday is up, although this won't trouble my dearest American readers.  If you've not already joined the facebook group, you'd have seen this puzzle a few hours ago anyway.  Enjoy!

Friday Puzzles #192

So, the League of Extraordinary Ladies and Gentlemen is really beginning to take off (although it must be added we only have one lady so far).  We have compiled a rather nice looking document with all the Week 1 puzzles here, although I'd recommend downloading the file from google docs before printing it out.  I hope you'll agree, dearest reader, that it looks very nice!

Here's a brief recap of how things are going.

Week 1:
Thursday (Non-consecutive, Rishi)
Friday (Anti-knight, me)
Saturday (Palindrome, Prasanna)
Sunday (Thermo, Seungjae) (I'm not sure if you'll need to join the facebook group to see this or not, but Seungjae doesn't run a blog so this is the only location you'll find it, other than the PDF...)

Week 2:
Monday (Clone, Fred)
Tuesday (Windoku, Prasanna)
Wednesday (Arrow, Bastien)
Thursday (No Donkey Step, Rishi)

If you'd like to join us, just check the facebook group.  I think you'll need to request to be added or something, but someone will get onto that fairly quickly.  After that we have a google spreadsheet where you can enter in your scores.  I think you probably need to get in touch with Rishi to see it though, but again that shouldn't take too long to get sorted out.

Anyhow, I'd suggest it's well worth joining in the fun.  If you are competitive the league already features some of the world's very best solvers, and if you aren't the puzzles are still probably the best sudoku you'll find on the internet.  Bastien's puzzle this Wednesday is in particular a work of art.

And so onto my contribution for Week 2.  There have been a lot of nice Sudoku variants that have been posted thus far, so I thought I'd keep things simple and throw in a classic.  I reckon (with the help of scanraid) this one just about scores a medium, although I suspect we'll once again be seeing the quickest times of the week on this puzzle.  And I'm going to shut up now.  Enjoy!

Friday Puzzles #191

This week marks the start of a series of Sudoku variants, in collaboration with a stellar cast of fellow Sudoku bloggers/solver, including (thus far): Rishi Puri, Prasanna Seshadri, Seungjae Kwak (I'll add a link when I have one) and Fred Stalder.  You'll hear more about "Champion Sudoku" next week when we'll publish our first collated PDF file.  If you are interested in joining in with this project, either to solve along, or to contribute, or anything else, please get in touch, or else join our facebook group.

My turn features a sudoku variant I'm not hugely comfortable either constructing, or solving, so it'll be interesting to see how the others get on.  In case "Anti-Knight" needs further explanation, all this means is that two cells a Knight's move away from each other cannot contain the same digit.  Equivalently, the same digit cannot be in opposite corners of any 2x3 or 3x2 subgrouping of cells in the grid.

I'll tentatively say medium for this puzzle.  Enjoy!

Friday Puzzles #190

Not much to say this week, I'm stuck in a bit of a rut and have many other things to be doing.  This yajilin probably reflects my general lack of inspiration.  There were some nice ideas which never quite seemed to come together and this is what happened instead.

In other news, t'other Dr. Tom has a new blog (with hopefully more besides to come), and there have also been a lot of excellent sudoku recently courtesy of my good friends Fred and Rishi, if that's more your cup of tea.  You should probably also keep an eye on the links section to the right there, which I'll be updating at some point.
