Re the GP round - the aim was not to be...Hi David,

Re the GP round - the aim was not to be nasty towards anyone. Those are not my comments, nor indeed comments that I went out of my way to solicit. These are comments from experienced solvers which I saw on Facebook, and represent their experiences, and not necessarily mine. I apologise if that isn't clear.

Anyhow, the point of highlighting this feedback is that I believe the concepts I raised in the report can help to explain this frustration, and this is one reason I would offer why the report is not irrelevant.

I think choosing to not engage with any of this doesn't mean that you are being patronising. What I do think is patronising is the opposite: to engage with the process with the single aim of telling me I'm wasting my time and generally trying to shut down the discussion. Whatever your privately held views may or may not be, I don't think that describes you at all.Tom Collyerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03663579809785456634noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2031071943178978556.post-16922628507954167612020-05-04T08:55:09.793+01:002020-05-04T08:55:09.793+01:00Tom,
As one of your "irritatingly patronisin...Tom,

As one of your "irritatingly patronising" friends, the main reason why I haven't played a full part in this process is not because I don't care but because I don't want to expose my views to detailed scrutiny. I derive a lot of pleasure from solving and occasionally setting Sudoku puzzles. I believe it is best for my mental health to leave it like that.

I'm sad to see the low esteem with which you seem to view the WPF. But I take particular exception to the singling out of the Indian authors in the recent Sudoku GP. I don't think this furthers the debate and I don't think that this round particularly stood out as un-Sudoku-y either in look or solving experience. (But I admit I solve lots of puzzles as well as Sudoku.)

I agree with you that Cracking the Cryptic has been brilliant. And, on point 3 above, it seems that there is new talent emerging. Your place on my fingers might be under threat.

Take care,

David. David McNeillhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06827863517493878016noreply@blogger.com
