Friday Puzzles #126

Wow – an entry on time – what is the world coming to!?

Well somethings never change. It’d have been really great to have pulled off this masyu with perfect symmetry, but as it is I’ve had to add an extra pearl to take the solution count down from 2 to 1. Can’t have it all eh? Still, I think there’s more than enough here to keep you entertained, and you might even need to use a slight twist on an old masyu chestnut to get you going. Enjoy!

  1. Next Tuesday, I’m posting a variant Masyu with partial antisymmetry. In it, I give all the pearls without counterparts and just the positions of those pearls that do. Maybe you could try that?

  2. You couldn’t link me to that puzzle could you? I’m normally a little wary about Masyu variants because a lot of them feel artificial, or else don’t quite have the same visual appeal as Masyu. For example I could never quite get into the one where you have indeterminate grey pearls, or indeed the one where some of the pearls aren’t used. Don’t get me wrong, you can definitely get some very nice one-off puzzles from these, but I guess for me at least, the novelty soon wears off.

  3. Well, I did it in the context of an already nonstandard hexagonal type. It might work better in squares:
