Friday Puzzles #145

So in a moment of apparent madness this week, I have decided to forego the pleasures of solving puzzles for the Lent period. I'm a kind of sucker for these sorts of seemingly inexplicable feats of willpower stubbornness, just to see what I'm apparently capable of. In previous years I've done still crazier things, like giving up hot beverages or worse still, shaving but I suspect come 40 days and 40 nights this one will be right up there too.

Anyhow, enough of my more neurotic ramblings.  The upshot of it all is no nikoli.com, no croco, no crosswords, and the horribly scrambled Rubik's cube on my shelf will have to sit there taunting me with its lack of order.  As far as the blog is concerned, whilst writing a puzzle isn't quite the same as solving one, there is obviously a significant overlap, and besides, you'd hope I'd at least be testing the puzzles I put out, right?

Still, I'm never one to pass up the chance to make metaphorical pancakes - or indeed to pass on a vague theme - so earlier this week I hastily put together six puzzles.  The theme will hopefully become apparent.

This week, yajilin, a theming favourite of mine.  I can't remember exactly how hard this is now, but I suspect somewhere between easy and medium.  Enjoy!

EDIT: There was originally a missing clue, which apparently took solutions down from one to none.  This intrigues me!

Friday Puzzles #144

Some things change dearest reader, and some things don't.  I'm late on a Friday, and I'm treating you to another trademark Masyu puzzle.  Nothing too challenging, but I've been out of it all day.  That's life I suppose.  Enjoy!

Friday Puzzles #143

So dearest reader, I think this will be my last Friday Puzzles here on Warwick blogs. Why not take a look at my facebook page to learn a little more. You can even, like, like it, or something like that, like. How I loathe the word like. Almost as much as I do the word blog.

Anyhow, more news soon, but be prepared to start updating your bookmarks.

On to this week’s puzzle, another itsy-bitsy Akari puzzle. Because of the small size, I feel duty bound to make it non-trivial, but because of the small size, it isn’t anywhere near being too hard. Enjoy!

Blog opening soon!

Welcome, dearest reader, to the new home of detuned radio.  This google blog account will be open for business very soon.  What will happen to the Warwick blogs account is hard to say; so far as I'm still at Warwick, the answer will be nothing in terms of viewing the blog, but I think it's safe to say I'll lock the thing down so it becomes read-only.

After that I'm not sure.  I think the blog will remain viewable, but because the puzzle image files are currently hosted on my personal web-space I don't think that will be of much use to anyone.  Let's not kid ourselves about my blurbs most mediocre, dearest reader.

Anyhow, all is not lost as I think I'm able to transfer across all the posts, comments, tags and all to this shiny new blog.  I dare say the formatting won't be quite right, and I'll need to spend an afternoon or something re-uploading images here but hopefully nothing will change.  Exciting times ahead - enjoy!

Friday Puzzles #142

I’ve not done a decent Nurikabe for a while, dearest reader, and nor have I used my favourite Nurikabe pentomino for a while!

In some Terribly Exciting News, this blog also has a nice new presence on facebook. Have a look here, and if you like, sign up for some facebook based prompts. If nothing else, it should inform you more reliably than RSS when I make an actual update as opposed to a place-holder.

So yes, onto the puzzle. Fairly steady progress, but watch your step. Bit of trivia, remove the 4 and 5 clues from the bottom left, stick in a 6 where it ought to go, and you end up with a similar – although I suppose ultimately easier – puzzle. Enjoy!
