Friday Puzzles #135

Back to old times eh? I apologise firstly for the delay in getting a puzzle out in the first place, and secondly for then putting out something broken.

No such issues with this one. It’s moderately monstrous. I guess what with the small size and everything, some of the intended logic might get lost in small bifurcation chains, but I want you to know, dearest reader, there is definitely an intended solution path and I am really quite pleased with it.

Enjoy, finally!

  1. I’m seeing multiple solutions. Here’s one: http://i.imgur.com/mT8GE.png

The marked cells arrange in three different ways and the bottom left side in one other way to force one of the above. There might be even more because I used uniqueness once in solving. Or maybe I just don’t see something I broke?

Thanks for the nice, usually error-free puzzles!

  2. No, it appears the way I thought the room of 4 in the bottom left resolves in more ways than I thought it did! I’ll try and fix, but that might be tricky bearing in mind that I use that very early on in the solve.

Interestingly enough, the ambiguity you point out actually resolves uniquely in my intended solution as the chain of shaded squares is already connected to the edge. I thought it was quite a nice gimmick, so hopefully I can keep that there!

  3. Haha, I don’t think there’s a need to apologize, its not like the solvers apologize when they make errors ;) Nice puzzle in the end, glad you got it fixed. Enjoyed it though I took quite a lot of time. I guess “moderately monstrous” covers it just fine.
